Overview

This is a 3D environment project I started in the winter of 2023, inspired by the artist ツチヤ from pixiv, with personal designs developed on top.

I’ve always been a big fan of fantastical and unreal scenes, often seen in games & concept art, so I decided to make one myself. This piece combines two of my favorite themes: the beauty of constellations and the complexity of time.

From Stills to Animation

At the beginning of the project, I only intended to optimize for still-frame renders rather than animation, so I did not account for any potential model collisions. Three months later, however, I just thought — what good is a clock if it can’t move? So I decided to reconstruct and redesign the main body geometry for animation. See the breakdown process for more detail :)

Thanks

Many thanks to the ones who gave me feedback and suggestions throughout, especially Neb, who gave me valuable suggestions on color choices when my eyes could no longer spot errors after looking at it for so long. Special thanks to Aurcereal for making the spanning glow sticks in the middle for me.

Stardust

For fun, I imported and posed one of my favorite Vocaloid characters, 星尘 Stardust, into the scene and created a render, as I think her character design fits the theme of the environment very well. (Character model credits to 椛暗, 流云景, 诚实的月亮)

Thanks for watching/reading and hope you enjoyed!
