Lantern Festival
Blender geometry nodes sky lantern scene
Overview
A quick piece of fan-art-ish work. I made this for a workshop — on the Blender to DaVinci Resolve workflow — for our school’s SIGGRAPH chapter. The scene was made in Blender with Geo-Scatter, then exported as AgX_Log and color-graded in DaVinci Resolve. I made the whole sky full of lanterns using some pretty simple geometry nodes in Blender — simply scattering a point cloud in a volume and assigning a geometry to each point. Because a main point of the workshop was to demonstrate color-grading in DaVinci Resolve, I also made two color-grading versions.
For a long time, I’ve had the idea that I want to make a scene full of rising lanterns in the sky at the time of the Chinese Lantern Festival, so I’m pretty happy to have finally made something out of it!
